Hollywood actor George Clooney and his wife, Amal Alamuddin Clooney, as well as the couple’s children, have been granted official French citizenship, as indicated in the French government publication seen by the AFP on Monday.

The news has reinforced statements made by the actor, Clooney, in the early part of the month of December, when the actor praised the laws in France regarding the right to privacy, as well as the right to privacy concerning families, especially For instance, the reprinting of unauthorized photographs of children can result in serious legal implications in France, unlike the celebrity culture portrayed in America.

Today, the Clooney family acquired dual citizenship, with George still retaining citizenship from America because he gained citizenship from France too.

Why did George Clooney choose France?

Speaking to RTL radio earlier this month, Clooney said France offered something increasingly rare for high-profile families: privacy.

“Here, they don’t take photos of kids. There aren’t any paparazzi hidden at the school gates. That’s number one for us,”

the 64-year-old actor said.

Clooney has also shown his love for both French culture and language, as he joked in English that he is

“still not very good”

at French even after over 400 days in classes.

“I think it’s a great place to bring the kids out of the spotlight,”

he explained the reason behind his choice as far as raising his children is concerned.

Who is Amal Clooney, and what is her connection to Europe?

Amal Clooney is a British-Lebanese international human rights lawyer who has long-standing links with Europe and international bodies. Speaking fluent French, English, and Arabic, Amal has maintained a global legal practice dealing with journalists, political prisoners, and victims of war crimes.

Her professional commitments often find her in the courts of Europe as well as international institutions, making France an obvious cultural as well as professional fit. They married in Venice in 2014, highlighting the extent of Clooney’s connections to Europe even before the marriage.

Where does the Clooney family live in France?

In 2021, the couple purchased a house in Southern France, a former wine estate known as the Domaine du Canadel, which is located near the village of Brignoles, in the Var. The estate is surrounded by vineyards, making it the emotional root of the couple’s lifestyle, which revolves around the globe.

Clooney told RTL that although the family continues to travel extensively for work, their French home is “where we’re happiest.”

How old are the Clooney children?

George and Amal Clooney also have 8-year-old twins in their family—a big part of their decision to move to various countries has been raising these kids. The need to protect them from exposure to media all around them has not only been one of their priorities but an essential one as well.

What is George Clooney’s career legacy?

George Clooney is one of the biggest all-rounders in the Hollywood film industry, known and recognized worldwide for his charming personality, talented direction, and variegated work as an actor, producer, and director.

He achieved great acclaim as Dr. Doug Ross in the popular television series ER in the 1990s and later emerged as a leading actor in major hits such as the Ocean’s Eleven series (2001-2007), where he starred as the lead actor, sharing the screen space in the heist series starring Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.

Clooney received critical acclaim and won two Oscars, for Best Supporting Actor for his gritty performance of a CIA man in “Syriana” (2006) and for producing “Argo” (2012) for which he won Best Picture, in addition to his Golden Globes victory for “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” (2001) and “The Descendants” (2011). This is indeed an enviable achievement of eight Oscar nominations in six different categories, achieved by very few individuals.

Off the screen, he directed successful movies such as Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), an Oscar-nominated film, and The Ides of March (2011), an Oscar-nominated film as well, and expanded his empire via a successful endorsement deal with Nespresso and another from the sale of his tequila brand, Casamigos, in 2017, which earned him $1 billion.

His impact can be seen in the humanitarian work that exists through the Clooney Foundation for Justice, combining cultural power with global advocacy so that one’s fame can extend far beyond the realm of the arts

Are other US celebrities following a similar path?

Clooney is not the only one looking to draw closer ties with France. In a recent interview with France Inter radio, US film director Jim Jarmusch said that he too intends to apply for French nationality on the grounds of cultural admiration and a desire for remoteness from the political and social tension in the United States.

“I’d like a place that will allow me to escape from the United States,”

said Jarmusch.

Observers say the trend reflects growing interest among prominent Americans in European residency, citizenship, and legal protections, particularly around privacy, healthcare, and cultural life.
