Since 2016, when Donald Trump became ‌President, Europe has been not clear about its relationship with the US. Elon Musk is the figure who heightened this uncertainty. He has aimed to strongly influence ‌politics in the United States as well as in Europe.

One example of Elon Musk’s political influence is given below. In February, Federal elections in Germany will be held. Musk used his Twitter platform to show great support for the far-right party. Alternative for Germany (AFD), is becoming stronger after the collapse of Germany’s ruling coalition. The Alternative for Germany (AFD) has strong anti-immigrant views. They also have strong ties with extremist groups, including neo-Nazis. Musk’s support for such a party increased ‌instability in European politics.

Musk’s influence in US and European politics highlighted that wealthy individuals can easily shape the political landscape. His actions show that powerful individuals can reform politics according to their interests. This increases tension in Europe and its partnership with the United States.

Elon Musk support ‌one party in German politics increases concerns and complexities across Europe. Different European nations are also under immense tension due to Musk’s plans to influence the new US administration. His remarks explore that time when the European political landscape is unstable with growing tensions across different regions such as France. The removal of Michel Barnier from ‌Prime Minister’s seat has weakened the power of President Macron. At the same time, NATO and the EU are worried about ‌new Trump policies regarding trade and tariffs. Europe is also concerned about the less military support of the US for Ukraine under Trump’s leadership.

Elon Musk’s comments regarding German politics came after the statement of far-right British politician Nigel Farage. According to him, Musk is making plans to donate a large amount to his Reform UK party. This has grown tension in ‌United Kingdom about the rules for political donations. Furthermore, Musk’s support for one German part also raises concern for German leaders.

In the February elections, Friedrich Merz is the most likely choice to succeed Chancellor Scholz, and the AFD is attempting to oppose him. However, the AFD’s influence is limited because numerous other major political parties have already rejected entering a coalition with it. AFD leader Alice Weidel referred to the party as “the only alternative” for Germany and thanked Elon Musk for his sponsorship. Despite Scholz’s condemnation of Germany’s faltering economy, Musk’s remarks caused political opponents to go on the defensive. CDU member Alexander Throm cast doubt on Musk’s IQ and the significance of his statements. Another CDU member, Dennis Radtke, labeled Musk’s remarks “threatening, irritating, and unacceptable” and accused him of intruding on Germany’s elections.

The continuous disagreements between Germany’s political parties and the influence of foreign leaders like Musk on domestic politics are further emphasized by this circumstance. Lack of coalition choices may restrict the AFD’s chances, and Musk’s criticism highlights the divisive political environment Elon Musk’s political activity has prompted criticism from European leaders. Clara Buenger of the Left Party in Germany claimed that Musk’s political efforts were pointless and implied that he was unaware of German political discourse. In reacting, Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized Germany’s freedom of expression while also pointing out that it permits people to voice wrong beliefs, thereby subtly shaming Musk’s backing of the far-right AFD party.

Given that Nazi-era language is strictly prohibited in Germany, Musk’s remarks about the AFD caused an uproar. Concerns regarding foreign influence on politics were raised in the UK by Musk’s relationship with Nigel Farage and his possible financial backing of Farage’s Reform Party. Some UK politicians have demanded stricter laws since there were no restrictions on foreign donations. Musk’s enthusiasm for populist leaders like Trump and his criticism of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer demonstrate his wide-ranging political influence, with responses varying greatly between nations.
