According to Buckingham Palace, French President Emmanuel Macron will make a state visit to the UK in July. From July 8–10, the president and his spouse, Brigitte Macron, will be visiting Windsor Castle, hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The September 2023 state visit by the King and Queen to France was viewed as a diplomatic triumph in aiding the restoration of ties following Brexit.

These trips provide a “soft power” chance to improve defense, commerce, and cultural relations—in this case, with a significant European ally. While construction is underway at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle will host the state visit. This entails moving customary components, such as the state banquet, which has recently taken place in the ballroom of Buckingham Palace.

The King and Queen’s visit to France, which aimed to deepen defense and diplomatic relations, comes after President Macron’s journey.

How close is the personal bond between both leaders?

Most people agree that French President Emmanuel Macron and King Charles III of the United Kingdom have a warm and friendly personal connection that is marked by regular friendly interactions and mutual respect.

A number of high-profile meetings have taken place between them, such as King Charles’s first state visit to France in September 2023. Macron showed a close connection with Charles and Queen Camilla during this visit by greeting them with affectionate banter and physical touch, like as resting his hand on the King’s arm and back.

Following the “horrifying” Russian invasion, King Charles gave a speech strongly supporting Ukraine and was given a standing ovation by the French Senate. The King visited environmental initiatives and a food market in Bordeaux, in addition to set-piece events at the Arc de Triomphe and a supper at the Palace of Versailles. In light of the uncertainties surrounding discussions over Ukraine and the possibility of U.S. tariffs, Macron’s upcoming visit will be interpreted as an additional attempt to strengthen ties with a European ally.

On the recommendation of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, foreign heads of state are invited to visit the King.

How is King Charles managing diplomacy during cancer treatment?

The King is reportedly maintaining a busy schedule while undergoing cancer treatment, as evidenced by the announcement of a French official visit. The King and Queen’s 20th wedding anniversary coincided with their official visit to Italy last month, which drew raucous crowds in Rome and Ravenna.

The late Pope Francis also met privately with the royal guests at the Vatican. This month, the King will also go to Canada for the first time in over 50 years to attend the state opening of Parliament in Ottawa.

Following President Trump‘s proposals for Canada to become the 51st state in the US it will be interpreted as a demonstration of support for Canadian independence. President Trump has been invited to make a second state visit to the UK as part of a diplomatic balancing act; he recently hinted that a visit would occur in September.

This year is becoming a busier one for royal activities abroad since it is believed that the French visit was already scheduled before President Trump received the additional invitation. When President Nicolas Sarkozy visited the UK as a guest of Queen Elizabeth II in March 2008, it was the last time a French president had made a state visit.
