The Prime Minister of France, François Bayrou, has proposed a significant change in European defense. He aims to create a defense union similar to NATO but without US involvement. This move suggests that François Bayrou wants to make Europe more self-reliant on security measures.

According to Bayrou Europe should not rely on the United States for its security and defense. He believes that a unified European defense system is enough to tackle different security threats.

This initiative aligns with France’s push for European strategic autonomy. It emphasizes collaboration among EU nations to develop shared security measures. To become powerful, Europe should invest in defense.

Bayrou’s proposal is about creating a stronger, more independent Europe. It is a call to solidarity and strategic hardiness in a rapidly changing world. With this new strategy, Europe may redefine its position in the world while guaranteeing its security and prosperity independent of external authority.

According to the French Prime Minister, Europe must recognize the value of independence to ensure its safety. This idea has been a cornerstone of French policy since the time of General Charles de Gaulle. After the US changes its foreign policy, Europe should make efforts to defend itself without the assistance of any external power.

To make this happen, Bayrou believes that European Union nations should spend more on the security and defense sectors without concern for ‌EU budget rules. This is due to the fact that strong defense is necessary to protect Europe’s independence and safety. France has already taken a step forward in this direction and now other European nations must follow the same actions.

Bayrou’s purpose is to create Europe that doesn’t rely on the US and can handle its own security challenges. This includes dealing with the Russia-Ukraine war and facing global competition.

France’s strategic movement for defense boost

France is one of the nations that is increasing its military capabilities and spending more in defense sectors. The 2025 budget draft allocates €50.5 billion for defense, marking a rise of over €3 billion. This growth highlights France’s commitment to making its military presence stronger enough.

Since 2017, France has been working to increase its defense budget and has a long-term aim of doubling it by 2030. This ambitious plan aims to reach €67.4 billion, positioning France as a major military power.

Investing in ‌defense spending is the strategy of France to increase European security and promote strategic autonomy. By making heavy investments in the military sector, France is not only bolstering its defenses but also playing a great role in a robust European defense framework.

This step by France shows its leadership in European defense initiatives. The strategy also emphasizes the need for strong military forces amid an increasingly complicated world. The investment proves France’s commitment to security and its status as a key player on the global stage.
